Effects Of Alcohol On Your Skin

33

Regular heavy drinking,  will have a major impact on your health and it can affect how your skin looks. As well as the dehydrating defect that alcohol has, some drinks also contain ingredients that can damage your skin.

Here are 10 of the effects on your skin that drinking alcohol regularly will have.

1. It dehydrates you and your skin

The dehydrating effects of alcohol are known to anyone who has ever had one too many and woken up the next day with a headache and a dry mouth, but that dehydration will also affect your skin. If you are dehydrated too often you will age faster and develop lines and wrinkles. It will also make your skin look dull and lifeless.

2. It damages the liver, which will show in your skin

Alcoholic drinks contain toxins that, over time, will damage the liver. In serious cases, that can lead to fatal liver damage, but even when the liver only has minor damage, it won’t be able to filter the toxins out of your body properly and that will lead to your skin looking pasty and it will make your pores look larger.

3. Drinks with salt will bloat you

Drinks like margaritas that have salt around the rim of glass will give you the double dehydrating effect of the alcohol and the salt, which will make hangovers worse and increase the effect that it has on your skin. Too many margaritas and the salt will also cause you to bloat. The effect may be only temporary, but it’s not a good look to have first thing in the morning.

4. Alcohol deprives your skin of essential nutrients

Alcohol also leeches vital nutrients out of your body, including the ones that are needed for healthy skin. If you drink too much on a regular basis, the lack of protein and vitamins getting to your skin will age you, make you look sallow, and you will have no colour in your skin.

5. It can cause rosacea

Over time, heavy drinking can cause permanent damage to your skin and one of the very noticeable effects that it can have is that it can cause rosacea. Rosacea is a skin condition that starts with a tendency to blush and can become a permanent redness to face and cause the capillaries to become visible under the skin. In severe cases, it can also lead to painful lesions on the skin.
